J. S. Bach ranks among Western music’s surpassing musical geniuses, yet his later years were characterized by strife and disappointment.  Against these disheartening events, Bach composed an awe-inspiring series of masterpieces.  Were some of these works intended for posterity in an era when music was solely a contemporary art?   Were some of his works governed by mysticism and/or numerology?  Was Bach really forgotten after his death?  Presented by Robert Hartwell, Ph.D., Friday, May 17, 2019, at 7:00PM (doors open at 6:15PM for the wine reception).
